Children with a history of sexual abuse or other maltreatment may experience a wide range of indicators including emotional difficulties, behavioral problems, and cognitive and physiological symptoms. Early identification and treatment of traumatized children can prevent potentially serious and long-term negative effects.

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING

“Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.” — Ashkay Dubey

Valley CAC uses a trauma-informed treatment approach to guide our work with children and teens who have experienced sexual assault/abuse or other forms of maltreatment.

With extensive training and specialization in the field, our in-house therapist provides comprehensive treatment for children who have been seen at the CAC, as well as their siblings and non-offending caregivers who have been negatively impacted by the abuse. Valley CAC provides a range of trauma-informed services to suit individual client needs. Trauma treatment modalities offered at the CAC include: sand tray, art and other expressive therapeutic interventions, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), psychoeducation, parent support, assessment, and referral. Periodically, support groups and other trauma-informed groups are also available.
